I’ve made at least a two hundred holiday props in my lifetime and thoroughly enjoy bringing magic to each season.
It was not until we moved into our new house that I used my skills as prop maker to enchant my own home permanently.
For my daughter’s room, I decided to make the theme of a castle in the sky. My husband agreed to allow me to turn our room into an ancient Mediterranean villa.
I took the resell consideration of our home and used a technique that gives the look of a stone texture, yet leaves the walls as smooth as any other regular painted one.
My family was incredible pleased with the results of my efforts.
Just out of curiosity, I called a few area faux painters to see how much the technique for either one of the rooms would cost.
For my bedroom at 16 x 30, I was quoted approximately $20,000. For my daughters room, approximately $2400.
The tools I used included several paints, plastic bags, brushes and a bit of imagination. The cost for both rooms: $400. The feeling after completing the artwork: Priceless.
